  • A nice light amber coloring. A nose of orange and more orange! Notes of orange blossom, honey and cloves in a sweet but not to the point of cloying. Very smooth and a bit light on the finish.
Pretty good and it handled both the apple pie and the pumpkin cake with aplomb.

  • Much better than the bottle I had 6 years ago. The wine was still sweet and perfumed, but was much better balanced than it was before. My guess is that it is entering its prime, although I could detect no reason to rush. Stayed fresh in the bottle for more than a few days. Very nice.

  • Cork was nearly flawed, but the lines never QUITE made it all the way to the top. Unfortunately, the previous reviewer nailed it. This was a flat, flabby offering lacking the alcohol or structure to make a suitable compliment to our dessert of crème brûlée. It had a promising bouquet of peach and apricot, but upon tasting the lack of any complexity whatsoever keeps it from being anything other than a simplistic one-note pony. Disappointing. Fortunately, our hostess had another dessert wine which was fantastic, which only further demonstrated everything that was lacking with this one.

  • This dessert wine may be a little old. It had a sherry flavor that was not unpleasant, but dominated the other flavors. Aroma: butterscotch, burnt caramel, sherry Palate: butterscotch, sherry. My sources said that it was supposed to compliment fresh blueberries, but it overwhelmed them. It was awfully sweet and as I don't really care for dessert wines and I really don't care for sherry, this wine was not for me.

  • I do not have any experience with Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, and my primary points of reference for a wine such as this are Sauternes and the sweet white wines of the Loire. This wine was sweeter than most of the former and all of the latter (at least in my experience). Moreover, it does not bear much of a resemblance to the Aussie (and other) Muscats I have had, which have tended to be darker and richer. Okay, enough of what it isn't.
The wine has good color and a decent nose, a nose with almost a perfume scent. It was sweet, almost cloyingly so. For me, there was not enough acid to balance the sweetness. It may be that this is the style of the wine. I am not certain. I have two bottles left, and I will let them lay down for a while to see.
