This has softened a bit. Still a very old world profile -- fruits on the more savory side, with some nice wood notes. This went nicely with food. Given the price and age this was exactly what it should have been. Went quite well with pizza, but also nice on its own.

When I first tried this wine it was hard as nails & I was a little worried it that it would never open up. Now, a couple of years later, this wine could easily hang with some fine Bordeaux. It's very nicely balanced and is smooth and thick on the palate. The aromatics are starting to show some secondary and tertiary elements remeniscent of a fine Bordeaux. There is a bit of animale to this wine and THAT would be the only tip-off that this is a Cote-de-Blaye. It shows great structure and will improve immensly with 10 more years of age. Garagiste hit a home run recommending this wine.

presented as a bordeaux QPR alternative to anything napa. that's taking the criticism of calicab too far in my opinion. this wine blows.

Blackberry, violets, charred oak, green bell pepper and barnyard. Good balance and finish.
