Lunch with Anthony Genovese of Il Pagliaccio (Dolce Vita, Mandarin Oriental, Singapore): Another simple but pleasant wine. Strawberries, raspberries and a sprinkle or herb and dried earth on the nose made for a pleasant bouquet. The palate was simpler, but nicely put together, with a lemony acidity undergirding green strawberry flavours. A nice, fresh, summery drink.

Tasted at the winery. 96% sangiovese, 4% blend of other varieties including Merlot and native Italian grapes. Moderate red extract in color and flavor, with crispy acidity as you expect from sangiovese. Great wine. Drink as an aperitif or pair with seafood.

(Castello di Ama Rosato Toscana IGT) Light medium copper color; aromatic, tart orange, orange sherbet, cantaloupe nose; silky textured, juicy, flavorful but balanced rose, tart orange sherbet, tart mandarin sherbet palate with near medium acidity; best rose I've ever tasted; medium-plus finish (13% alcohol)
