Classic, mature California Cabernet nose of cedar, cassis, and black cherry. Palate is medium thin in body, with bright acidity. The black cherry fruit is slightly maderized, with mild spice. Finishes gracefully with eucalyptus freshness, though lacking backbone. It was a little tight with a few wood tannins noticeable after opening, but they quickly dissipated with air. This was an enjoyable bottle, even if a few years past peak.

We served tonight with leg of lamb and two other bottles of wine. I opened the bottle at 5:30 pm with my friend coming at 6 pm for dinner etc. The colour was identical or dark purple to a young Cal Cab we had with it. The wine initially tasted like it came from Rhone with earthy smells and spicy flavours. It was ok but seemed wierd. Time went on it changed. It took three hours but when it was ready wow. It was translucent,in balance and elegant. The fruit was not beaten up by the oak and we thought it was great. I must reinforce that it took three hours of decanting to get into the groove and stayed this way when I closed the bottle a couple of hours later. It is a lovely wine, I suspect has many year of life ahead. I have two more bottles and will keep one til 2020.

Respectable Simi Reserve showing some signs of age and decline with musky, herbal scents and a dark red hue. An earthy framed Cabernet with notes of black licorice, dried sage and red crushed flowers. Tannins are chewy, and have some rough edges about them. The second night the tannins were a little more tame, with a finish that was highlighted by suave leather and cigar box. Drink now into 2012 - 96 Cabernet horizontal.

Very pleasant surprise. Had low expectations. Chocolate and cedar box. Some dark fruit still present. Good legs, nose and finish.

Nice and mature. Mature berry flavors, and some dying oak tannins. Time to drink.
