Deteriorated cork. The nose mostly shows some decayed earth, a light touch of red fruit, and a hint of bell pepper, so I suppose the hallmarks are all there. The palate is pretty thin and dried out. There's not much noteworthy in this bottle anymore.

Loire study night (My place, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose was aromatic and ethereal with earth tones, potting soil, funk, dark red cherries, currants, leather, and violets. There was a significant amount of perfume to this with excellent depth.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins. The structure is more for framing the wine while the feel is silky and deep with earth tones, funky notes, dark red cherries, violets, and currants.
Overall: The other bottle that had been opened was corked, so we were lucky with this. This bottle showed gorgeously and was a real delight to drink.

Loire night at Keith's (Chicago, IL): Finally, a non-corked one! The nose has a heavy green pepper tone, with a bit of rusty iron as well. The palate is fairly soft, with not too much concentration, and there are some light pepper and red fruited flavours as well. Light, and perhaps nearing the end of its life, this is still quite pretty, but I would say drink up.
