  • Deep golden colour. White flower bouquet and Acadia on the nose. Acidity settled down and is not anymore obstructive and give the wine a sincere backbone which lasts till the end. Some stone fruit and mouth puckering lemon and slight grapefruit notes on the not overly complex but pleasant palate. Missing the peppery finish. Wonderful companion with the pork hock. Now I got to work out to get rid of those extra calories.

  • This took me some getting used to, but once I got acclimatized to it enjoyed it. I also realized that I need to build up my white wine palate vocabulary. There are a number of things that I can't put words to.
There's some acidity cutting through a medium-full bodied white. Definitely some white pepper plus meyer lemon or a hint of orange.
I'm honestly confused on the finish though. I've experienced this in a number of whites. There's an aftertaste that kicks in that reminds me of wood (almost like a tongue depressor). I'm going to presume that this is an effect of the lees, but I'm not sure at all. I need to have a discussion with somebody. I don't necessarily find this offputting, but more because I'm getting used to it.
This also seemed to do better as time went on (though that tannic/whatever feel started to get integrated more into the palate as the wine warmed up).
I need to learn to taste whites more systematically.

  • Pale. Typical green herb nose. Federspiel rather than Smaragd weight. Crisp and focused by fantastic acidity. Citrus and white pepper flavors.

  • Enjoyable bottle. Good mix of minerals and fruit. Bone dry on the finish. Went down quickly.

  • Aroma: honeyed grapefruit, lime, orange blossom and wet stone.
Palate: juicy and crisp orange, grapefruit and slate. A hint of spice and ever so slightly fizzy. Easy drinking and not very complex.
