  • Tolle Farbe, Roségold. Anfangs starke Kohlensäure, pendelt sich ein, sehr reife Grundweine.

  • A variety of wines and foods of Alsace (Domaine Josmeyer): What can I say? A very smooth and refined bubbly. But it went so well with the goat cheese with crushed mint leaves, that I am judging this a bit more on the wine and food combo. Certainly a smooth bubbly! If not the top of the bubbly pops of Alsace.

  • 100% Pinot Noir from old vines. 80% of the wine is composed of vintage 2013 with a small portion (20%) of reserve wines from the vintage 2012. 30% of the wine is aged in oak barrels, the rest in stainless steel. Aged for approximately 30 months in bottles before disgorging. Fermented to a very high volume of CO2 (7 bar).

Very intense lime green color. Very rich, complex and toasty nose with intense aromas of bready autolysis, roasted nuts, some bright appley tones, a little bit of chalky minerality and a hint of honey. Overall the wine could easily pass for a fine Champagne. The wine is broad, full-bodied and nuanced on the palate with complex, somewhat developed flavors of toasty autolysis, tart green apples, some nutty complexity, a little bit of honeyed richness, light citrus fruit tones and a hint of brooding darker-toned fruit. The high acidity lends good freshness to balance out the big size of the wine. The mousse feels gentle and slightly short. The finish is long, complex and somewhat toasty with flavors of lemony citrus fruits, tart green apples, some autolytic brioche, a little bit of years and a hint of yoghurt nuts.

A very impressive, structure-driven and complex Crémant d'Alsace that could easily pass for a good Champagne. Lots of freshness and autolytic complexity here. Delightful and delicious. Starting to drink well, but most likely it will take years more before this wine is peaking. Highly recommended.

  • Viinin tuoksussa on aistittavissa paahteisuutta. Ensimmäisenä makuna tulee omena, jota seuraa suun täyttävä runsas hedelmäinen maku, jossa on aavistus paahteisuutta.

  • (Mostly) Rosé Samples (Baker's Mill - Appomattox, VA): Crisp and clean aromas of oyster shell, flowers, white peach and white cherries. Creamy but tangy on the palate, the white cherry and apricot fruit is laced with oceanic elements of sea salt and oyster shell. Finishes with minerals and slight toast. 100% Pinot Noir From 40-year-old vines in Orschwihr.
