Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago - Burgs, old Bordeauxs, Cult Cabs and SQN (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Mostly tertiary dominating nose displaying remnant of decadent yellow fruit, orange peel, apple pie, lemon curd, a hint of peach, oyster jus, oyster shell, petrol, toffee, a hint of mint, smoke and a hint of Amontillado. Fully integrated palate, rich but subtle, slightly nutty, yellow fruit, slightly lacking acidity, medium mineral and a medium to long sherry/nutty finish. The fruit has faded. If you don’t mind a hint of oxidative note, this is still enjoyable. Needs to be drunk up as there is not much fruit left.

Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Opened 30 minutes before serving. Rich apple and baked apple to start with butterscotch and honey notes. The orchard fruit started fading and aging quickly. Very enjoyable when first poured, mostly uninterested 30 minutes later. But that is mostly to be expected from this vintage at this age.

Seashell, smoke, restraint nose and not expressive a la 1992s. The palate is beautifully balanced but slight shortage of acidity makes the wine slightly less than perfect. It opens up and gains some petrol component, which reminds me an aged Baumard Quarts de Chaume say the 71 or the 76.

Tasted blind. Rich and ripe aromas and flavors to start. Slightly short on the acidity, this started getting shorter and less interesting after 30 minutes in glass. Drink up.

Wineflock - Mature GC & 1er White Burgundy (Jim's): Deep golden yellow color. big rich forward arom ao fbriar yellow fruit, mineral and oak. Mmmnn, rich thick 'serious' concentrated yellow fruit and briar with a long round finish. Great at the start, it did not hold up that well in the glass over time and became a bit one-dimensional. Drink up.
