Volnay theme: Completely different from the last time I had this wine where it was tannic and unyielding. This seemed to be on the downslope with soy notes and completely resolved tannins. Didn't feel like the cleanest wine either.

First serious wines after Covid: Wish I could have smelled this as apparently it had a more feminine nose compared to the more masculine palate which made for an interesting juxtaposition. I could taste the fierce tannins, but the wine seemed to lose its structure with time. Not getting better from here I think.

From 45 year old vines this has a deep ruby colour with gorgeous, dark fruit and black cherry aromas on the nose. On the palate it's quite concentrated and classical in style, which when combined with the precise mineral details that go to make up a top quality Burgundy produces a wine of beautiful balance and harmony. Even after 16 years there is still just a hint of austere tannins that indicate this still has a long life ahead of it. A classy drop of juice and top notch Volnay. Estimated maturity: 2015-20120+

Found this lurking in the cellar; purchased upon release from Kermit Lynch. A young wine at age 15! Dark red - little or no browning. Nose of black fruits with a wonderful mineral component and "thick" texture on the palate with a long finish. Nice surprise and likely to continue to drink well to age 20. Would give the Lafon Santenots a run.

Lovely silky Volnay texture, slight whiff of oxidation, but powerful and long.
