  • Burgundy and pinot noir (Wink Wine Bar): A favorite of one group of tasters (the bottle-openers), the least favorite of another (the last to taste), so maybe the wine needs to be drunk soon after opening. The first group described the wine as garnet, with a slightly transparent rim, with a vanilla nose, caramel and thai basil flavors, with balanced acidity. The second tasters found the wine slightly bitter, with graphite notes and melon on the finish. They thought it might develop into a better wine. The last group thought it light and flat, but then they had been drinking lots of 2002 burgundy......

  • Decanted 1 hour. Pale/medium garnet. Subdued bruised red-toned fruit, earth, mellow tannins, firm acidity, finish dies away quickly. Seems past its best, showing no appreciable improvement over the course of the evening.

  • Nice translucent ruby with clearing but no bricking at the rim. On night one: not much going on. subdued nose with hints of red fruit and a floral element. On the palate, closed. Again with red fruit, mineral with distinct acidity and moderate tooth coating tannins. Improved over several hours, but still tight at bed time. On night two: Wow, what a difference a day makes! Elegant Volnay nose of violets and raspberry. The palate has opened up to show soft red fruits but with enough of an acidic edge to set off the food admirably. The tannins have civilized themselves and are quite pleasant. Over all a very feminine burgundy going well with roasted chicken served with a reduction sauce of roasted tomato with mushrooms and veal demiglace. Lovely.
