Not easy to explian in english but a very good wine. Have read the other comments and just agree. Would have been nice to jeep it for a feew more years.

The Gran Reserva designation is a bit misleading as it sets expectations rather high. Simple "Reserva" would be a better match as the wine is competent, but without much complexity.

As pointed out below this is an inexpensive Rioja. Classical in style, there's a very inviting nose and hints of tobacco and leather. I didn't experience the hole in the mid section. It had a very good balance overall but I would agree it is not the most complex or long lasting of Riojas but we are talking less than 1/3rd of the price of 904 or Imperial ( my two favourite classics). It would be interesting to leave a bottle for another 5 years and see if it becomes more complex

Lots of classic rioja flavours, tobacco, coconut and vanilla. Long finish but really lacking in fruit and excitement. Massive hole in the middle here. Tried again after a couple of hours but still not that great. If you must have a GR, it's not bad, but you could do so much better from rioja for only a bit more money. Between £9 and £12 at Majestic

PnP, fairly bright colour, quite tawny on the rim. Classical rioja on the nose, lots of oak tends to mask most other things. Very smooth on the palate, a little tannin initially but that soon dissipates, leaving lots more oak and decent acidity. The oak is very prominent, it's not unpleasant, but it could have been better integrated. Overall, not a bad Rioja, has the Gran Reserva aging, smoothness and lots of oak, but lacking in the class and complexity you get in top quality GRs. It's all a little too obvious.
