Scholium Tasting (Trestle on Tenth, NYC): From magnum -- Abe told a story about how it had boon out on his deck near a laundry machine... heat, vibration, the whole 9 yards... and yet holding up surprisingly well. light bodied grenache, but the flavors show nicely -- black pepper dominates with a hint of light sanguine flavor. shortish finish. impressive given the history.

Scholium Off-Line (Trestle on 10th (NYC)): A very food friendly Syrah. Really sharp black pepper and even a bit of chili pepper. This had a good amount of earthy funk as well. Paired well with food. Nicely integrated tannins. This was consumed from a magnum that apparently had sat on Abe's deck. It was cool to drink a relic like this.

Very tight on opening, grassy?, then after 40 minutes everything changed, waves of sultanas and honey flying out of the glass. According to the sommelier this wine is actually 90% grenache & 10% syrah. Had a 375ml. at The Tasting Room in NYC.

My experience was very similar to the first note. Though, I'm not going to say it was all that pleasureable. Definitely cloudy, light cherry red, and throwing quite a bit of sediment. Nose was essentially all alcohol, if there was any fruit you had to cut through the alcohol curtain. On the palate, it was tart and hot with slight hints of cranberry. Not very syrah like in any regard. Inside, I'm sobbing.

Nice bite (acid); As described by Abe it was stored under exceedingly poor conditions; Nice; Solid with good acid to perk it up; Slightly overripe
