This has aged very well for a wine at this level - it still has a good core of rich bramble fruits with spice and liquorice complexity alongside some green pine. Quite light styled in body with very little tannin making it very easy drinking. Not the biggest or longest impact in the mouth but VGV.

Nice wine, good acid that balances the fruit, medium bodied, some complexity, drank with swordfish, sultry evening and it drank easily, 2011 was a great year in Portugal, would drink again, a good value from so grape.

Black currant and red cherry fruit. A shade lighter in color and body than the typical blackberry-bomb Daos on the table, but not underweight--think Rioja vs. Ribera del Duoro. Terrific balance and complexity that needs time and air to show it's best. My #2, but only tied for 3rd with the group. One of the best $12 wines I've had in a long time.

If you are a fan of the Dao style (many aren't), this is an insane value red to have in your home. The nose and palate both carry a bit of green pine that I find characteristic of Dao wines. There is a blackberry currant underlying this on the nose with deep red cherry and other dark fruits. The palate follows as expected, though there are some solid (not overbearing) tannins on the tail end. It is tough to buy a wine this cheap and hold it, but this is one that would be interesting to follow a couple times a year over the next 4-5 years as I think it will evolve in a positive way over the medium term. Great buy.
