Decanted 2 hours before tasting. Thin, clear violet in the glass, with a bit of brick. Remarkably complex old world nose of plum, dried currant, leather, barnyard, dust. Perhaps a shade less complex on the palate, but what's there is very good, some clean red plum and green apple up front, very smooth progression into raw and dried black fruit later on, and some fantastic minerality toward the end. Medium-long finish, with some nicely integrated tannins sticking around a while. Surprisingly more subtle and less visceral than the 2008 (I'd have expected the opposite), but they both have their place; it would be silly to call one absolutely better than the other. Drinking beautifully now, lacks the structure to really go the distance, but no rush on it either. Early peak, drink or hold.

This is a delicious wine. After an hour open, it displayed absolutely everything you want from a Brunello. Colour is brick red with a nose of very ripe dark cherries and red currents with just a touch of roses and earth. The taste is structured by firm tannins that actually loosened as the night progressed. Its not a particularly full bed red; more classic in its structure, it delivers layers of flavour.

2 hour decant. Memorable balance of acidity and tannin. Light feel in mouth but intense flavors of berries and tobacco.

Well-balanced. Unlike others, I popped and poured. Complex nose of earth, tobacco and sour cherry. Great acidity on the palate. Long finish!!
