Brunello's and Super Tuscans (Luci Ancora): I saw the Gaja label and my hopes were elevated. Sadly, this wine didn't deliver much. Overall, hard to comprehend like so many Italians. But more specifically, lacking body and downright watery. The positives and negatives put this squarely in the "nothing wrong with it" range.

HK Wine Society Tasting & Dinner: Mature Brunello, 1975-1998 (Langham Palace Hotel, Mongkok, Hong Kong): Bright, youthful silver-gold colour. Nose is oily (that's the Vermentino) but light and citric, fresh saddle leather, saddle soap - so aromatic. Palate is moderate acidity, great weight, heady resonance and reverberance inside the head on the swallow but a rather flat 'stinging nettles' mid-palate lets it down badly.....you can only taste the barrel and not the wine. A pity because the nose promised so much.

60% Vermentino, 40% Viognier. Quite rich and creamy, obvious oak but not over the top. This has a very California feel to it. Ripe fruit. Very good.

Melon, Spearmint, and oak. Tasty but WAY overpriced

Crisp beautiful nose with good acidity. Gains some fat over the day. Very pretty. Nice drink, great with roasted monkfish!
