2010 Weingut Friedrich Becker Sankt Paul is complex, earthy and delicately spiced. The developing Pflaz Spätburgunder is clear and pale ruby with a trace of fine suspensions. With a couple of hours of in-bottle aeration, it opens up expressive aromas of black cherry, dried strawberry and rose petals. Underneath are complexities of tobacco, liquorice, paprika spices and earth.
The mouthfeel is dry and medium-bodied. A rather high level of taut acidity on the attack reveals complex red spices and a medium level of integrated tannin. Vivid flavours of raspberry, hawthorn and truffle lead to stony minerality in a long, delineated finish. The 13.5% alcohol is well-concealed. The empty bottle weighs 842 grams.

Becker is one of my favourite winemakers in Germany. However this bottle was a little disappointing. A simple spätburgunder without expected complexity. Easy drinking.

Yes, yes, yes. Lovely nose with coffee, sweet strawberry and some crushed rock. On the palate, great acidity, more coffee notes, crushed strawberry, a touch of blood orange. So bright and tense, but so expressive...very fruit forward at this stage, but still very pleasurable...

A very good , classic Spätburgunder. With original German mix of berries, earth, leather in still quite young wine. At the same time it is delicate and with a good potential for the future.

Rund, schmeichelnd, verführerisch, auf der Zunge tanzend; ein gut gereifter Pinot Noir wie aus dem Bilderbuch
