Really, really good but needed more than two hours open to show its best. Initially it’s coarse and chunky, the aromatics distractingly oxidative and almost sherry-like, the palate out of focus. Time in the glass really changed this wine, full circle. Becomes aromatically fine with salty mineral, hazelnut, and nougat, and quite harmonious and composed. The palate too - well balanced, savory, pungent, focused, and with real resonance and impact. That it is 0 grams dosage truly surprised us - it shows a lushness in the mouth, a roundness, that both blind tasters took as a big-house style with dosage.

Masterclass with Melanie Tarlant, vertical tasting of all currently released La Vigne d’Antan vintages. Wine #3/5. Made from ungrafted Chardonnay vines, planted in 1962. Disgorged in October 2016. Medium golden colour. Rich aroma of ripe apples, peaches, chalk, biscuits, slight smokiness, quince, beeswax, cheesy hints. Palate of zero dosage is full of energy and tension. Spicy mousse, mineral chalkiness, bone dry high acidity, complex flavours of pomello, lemon, honey and mushroomy hints.

Personally feel it slightly advanced for 2002 vintage and theres notes of honey, toast, melon, pineapple. Rather tired on the palate.

Lots of oxidative notes here, too much for my taste. Other than that fine perlage and complex spice notes. Hmm, should a 2002 BdB be this advanced?

Still young but lots to like here. Quite pure and deep. With air it dévelops layers. Non dosage style but enough fruit to balance
