  • A wow wine from the fragrance alone. That classic Grünhäuser scent of pine cones, forestal/herbal greenness, and an array of fruit ranging from tarter green apple and citrus to riper peachy flavours. It's surprisingly restrained and dry for an Auslese - this feels lighter and less sweet than many modern Spätlese, but it's in an absolutely amazing place right now with lots of mature smokiness and other savouriness framing the fruit, bright acids keeping it very fresh and lively, and a long, tart finish.

  • Gesellschaft zur Förderung des restsüssen Riesling: 1. Session (Blankendorsel): No formal notes taken. Young, fresh, deep, complex and light as a feather! Grünhaus at its very best. Tangerines, passion fruit, herbs, slate, juicy, dense and elegant. Incredibly long. My WOTN. 96-97

  • Dirk found the best description before. Nothing more to add. Thankfully this bottle was performing so good after the 89 Prüm was corked.

  • An evening with wine geeks (@Private location, Frankfurt): Glass: Gabriel Gold
After such a lineup of great Pinots, the ONLY wine you can serve is a noble sweet, aged Riesling from the Mosel. And this bottle really served its purpose!
Beautiful glowing golden color. Classic, intense Grünhaus notes with herbs, tangerine, vanilla, slate and spices. Deep and very complex. Great perfume!
On the palate the white and sweet equivalent to the CSJ: So joyful to drink, but also very complex. Perfect acidity, very elegant, great finesse. Pure yellow fruit (tangerine), herbs and mineral notes. Everything is at its right place. Looooong and lingering finish, that lasts for minutes. Grünhaus at its peak. Maybe cask 83 from Abtsberg is a bit more complex, but this bottle at its peak is for sure 96-97

  • Very similar to what I remember from this wine a couple of years ago. This bottle was a touch more reticent at first, needing a few hours (slow-ox) to fully emerge on the nose, but when it did - wow. An A+ for the aromatics alone. Such an incredibly complex fragrance, with an array of Mosel fruit, honey, flowers, mature smoky and petrol notes, and those classic Grünhaus pine cone, herbal, and other forestal scents that mirrored the fall weather. The palate is no less stunning - there's still plenty of youthful intensity and sweetness to the flavours, but also a powerful spine of acidity that balances the sweetness perfectly as this finishes almost off-dry. Glad I still have one more bottle.
