  • 125 cases, so I killed a unicorn.
This was an older Davis Bynum planting where I've hiked on the estate many time: So gorgeous. I love Russian River AVA. Staying on the estate is incredibly relaxing as there are ZERO civilzation noises to hear at night, which lends to incredibly deep sleep. Waking up to fresh air and morning walks among sacred vines is a dream!

Bought this from the winery as Pioneer member. I joined before the cave was dug.

This bottle was best decanted, then sit 24 hours.
Mucho fruit, but a bit one dimensional and clean. It's missing that dirt and earthen terroir/funk that I love, but it's good Pinot.

    Worth the money?
Hmmmmm, nah. I'd rather spend the $$ on Italian juice for more complexity.

The decant left 2 full glasses in the bottle, eventhough I had let this sit for 8 weeks from cellar to home. (gotta store my bottles in the art studio)
The fresh pour from 30 hour open bottle held lots of that new oak aroma almost as if it had been opened fresh. It was sweet, with way too much vanilla and oak tannins. It was better with a 24 hour decant.

TGE is different today. New management. They do concrete maturing which is my favorite. Their chardonnays are incredible, and their pinot from concrete, in my opinion is their best.

  • From jeroboam (etched, see pic). Notes from magnum opened last August apply, yet an added degree of intensity and freshness is evident. No hurry to open your 3L bottle of same, except nobody seems to have ANY big btls from TGE; am I the only (now former) Pioneer Clubber who raided the wine library after generous cave tastings with the previous regime (implying their free rein to interact with members and provide AWESOME hospitality has been notably stripped)? That said, still easily our FAVE RRV pinot producer!

  • From magnum. Herbal tea and dark cherry nose, same on palate with a hint of blueberry. A long, predominately tart black cherry finish with a touch of dryness. A great showing from this fantastic RRV producer, especially for the 2011 vintage. The dryness tells me to drink this over the next year or 2 while the fruit is still strong.
