Deep Purple showing just a bit of a fade to red at the rim. Bouquet is sharp, dark fruits laced with gun metal. Definite minerality on the nose but I don't remember that from prior bottles. Nope, first taste and this one has turned. That's what I thought from the nose and that gun metal/mineral smell. Leaning to vinegar. I am going to mark this as flawed or turned as I don't remember this being the character of the other bottles.
Coming back to this a couple hours later. I can barely get past the nose now of formaldehyde. Also looked at my prior two tasting notes from the last couple years and there is just nothing here from what I tried before. This thing is either flawed or hit it's peak and crashed.
Not going to score this one in the rating scale as I don't want to distort averages if I got a bad bottle but what I got goes something like this:
7/3/2/5/4 - 21/71

This wine is deep purple and clear with moderate limpidity. The bouquet is dark fruit based. Blackberry/Blueberry with hints of mocha and spice. Not strong and not perfumed. Easy. The palate is the same. FRuit forward dark fruits but spice and mocha nuances to it. Moderate acidity and tannins give it a nice textured mouthfeel. Strong body, moderate alcohol. 13.5 maybe? No 14.5. That is deceiving as I don't feel the alcohol as that heavy. Possibly because it is a bit more fruit forward and obscures it. At any rate, I do like it. Very easy to drink. Balance and finish are really nice. Holds together will and lingers conformably.
Overall this is a good wine. Not excellent or outstanding as it is somewhat limited in the power of the bouquet and simple in character. Sometimes that is nice though.

Bold dark fruit, burnt wood, a bit of tobacco and tar. Masculine wine, and a quite enjoyable one.

Originally tasted at winery. Good then but more integrated with only a touch tannic. Dark plum color. Goes well with pizza.
