‘Got a few bottles remaining. Drinking beautiful. Previous notes cover the details. I will add there’s a tobacco nose as wine is tasted. ‘Just eager to encourage drinking it sooner than later.

Nicely balanced berry fruit. This needs air to settle down as it is a bit rough when first poured. Day two this is classy and well integrated. Really well done for a 19 yr. Old!

Still very dark There is alcohol on the nose and sweet jammy dark fruits waft from the glass The wine itself is big and voluptuous with sweet plums and black fruits and a rich mouthfeel. It still has a bit of tannin and the finish is long. This is an big delicious Syrah that is excellent now but will continue to drink at its peak for at least 5 years I think Score held back a point just because it's a bit monolithic

This is the second of the three Syrahs from the Behrens & Hitchcock 2004 Syrah tasting lot I purchased. This is very different than the "Chien Lunatique" wine I reviews before. Color is a beautiful inky purple. The smell is more woody, think more of a cedar/oak mix. The flavor is very mellowed out fruit with smoke/bbq profiles. Loving the aging on this wine, but would drink soon as it's getting close to its ideal drinking time in my mind.

Showing some age with stewy fruits and some tomato leaf herbaceousness. Fig, prune, raisin and baked black and blue fruits round out this wine that still has lovely structure. Drink now with a big piece of lamb or venison.

(BEHRENS & HITCHCOCK HOMMAGE TO ED OLIVERA SYRAH) #1; COLOR-great; NOSE-soapy creamy flavor, fresh whipped cream in your laundry room, tight; TASTE-black currant, cocoa bean, luscious plum on the finish, very full-bodied, very silky on the finish, great structure, really firm tannins, tremendous wine w/ great potential; RP-94; GV-92+
