  • Purchased at the winery recently after they reopened the tasting room as the Covid surge had at least temporarily slowed. From their library collection and not part of the (standard) tasting room pours, but if you appear knowledgeable and genuinely interested in their wines they might slide you a sample.

Drank over two days. Nose: Coffee, bramble, with green pepper notes, ripe blackberry fruit. Showing age with bricking around the edges. Palate: Round tannins and acid, with a pleasant long finish.

The Mrs likes fruit forward wines and I prefer more old world style. This has both going on and after a couple of hours it was singing nicely for both of us.

Very nice with a mild flavored and lightly seasoned filet mignon. As expected, didn’t pair as well with a more heavily seasoned NY steak.

Vacuvin’d and finished the next night. Didn’t improve so this isn’t likely to improve with further aging.

  • Was disappointed by this wine 18 months ago. Not sure if my earlier experience was with a bad bottle or a bottle opened too young. Tonight’s bottle presented an excellent Merlot that seems to be in a prime drinking window. The most notable feature is the extended, smooth finish. Lingers like a solid cab. Blue and black fruits with a savory herbal note. Would seem to play nicely with a wide array of foods. Have recently had Darioush merlots from 2009, ‘10, ‘11 and ‘12, and my favorite by a wide margin is the 2012.
