La Festa del Barolo Gala Dinner (The Pool in NYC): Also poured a touch musty and I almost got a hint of barnyard and brett but all of that blew off with more time in the glass. And then you get that underlying elegance and there's almost a hint of umami and maybe a slightly darker fruit profile and again a really classic wine (I have a different definition I think than Lettie of the WSJ although mine is perhaps even more positive).

Decanted over one hour. Cork in good shape, half way stained. Yes, seems to be in a great spot! Vibrant nose of red fruit, tar, some funk and rose petals. Medium bodied, smooth and complex, showing bright acidity and notable tannins, a lot of ripe red fruit with a mellowed aspect, some tarry and funky notes with a soft tannic bite on the finish. Classic old Barolo that gets better with more decades. What a treat!
