  • Served blind.

Youthful pale greenish color, small beady bubbles start to form on the inside of the glass. The nose is surprisingly green and fresh with some obvious underlying richness. There is an almost unripe note of asparagus along with aromas of stony minerality, some tropical stone fruits, a little bit of red apple and a hint of alcohol on a subtle backdrop of creamy oak. The wine is full-bodied, yet surprisingly tight and tangy with high acidity and sense of crisp character. There are youthful flavors of sweet exotic fruits, some stony minerality, a little bit of pineapple, a hint of creamy oak and vanilla and a green hint of asparagus. The finish is acid-driven yet quite rich with flavors of stony minerality, overripe red apples, some herbal greenness, a little bit of creamy oak and a touch of sweet yellow fruits. The alcohol gives a light warming touch to the aftertaste.

Served blind, I honestly couldn't pick this one up as a Burgundy white. Although there were some obvious hints pointing to that direction, those green notes threw me off big time, making me think of a new world white blend with some Sauvignon Blanc in the mix, giving those green tones. Overall it is quite surprising to see such green elements in a wine from a warmer vintage like this, but seeing this comes from a bigger négociant, I guess they must have crammed all kind of fruit at not-so-optimal ripeness into this wine, giving it that kind of slightly green edge. Other than that, this is a pretty basic warmer vintage Burgundy white with surprisingly reasonable use of oak - there isn't much in the way of wood aromas, mostly the oak shows through as this creamy richness. Good and reliable everyday white, worth its price at 14,48€.
