  • A naturalist "dry unfiltered amber wine" made with Mtsvane grapes sourced from a 70-year old plot located in Manavi in the Kakheti region. The wine is a full-on amber wine that is fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in earthenware kvevri vessels and macerated with the skins for three weeks, after which the wine is racked off the skins transferred to other kvevris to age for 9 months. The whole vinification process is made according to a philosophy of minimum intervention and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with a small dose (~30 mg/l) of sulfites. 12% alcohol.

Deep and very slightly hazy amber color. Savory and very slightly funky nose with aromas of resinous phenolic character, some smoke, a little bit of nuttiness, light bretty tones of leather, a hint of beeswax and a floral touch of rose petals. The wine is broad, full-bodied and oily on the palate with quite wild and animal flavors of leather, walnuts, some bruised apple, a little bit of honeycomb, light earthy tones and a hint of candied orange zest. The overall feel is silky and quite textural with moderately high acidity and firm medium tannins. The finish is lively, spicy and moderately grippy with long, savory flavors of chopped nuts, some bruised apple, a little bit of smoke, light funky tones of new leather, a hint of resin and a touch of ripe yellow fruits.

A balanced, textural and fine-tuned orange wine that might be quite funky in style, yet it feels surprisingly clean for a Pheasant's Tears wine since there are no obvious faults and the wine tastes more like a classic Georgian amber wine than a super-funky natural wine. Still retaining quite a bit of fruit and structure, I can imagine this wine will keep easily for many years more. I heartily recommend to let the wine stand up for many days in advance and carefully decanting it off the deposit. Priced according to its quality at 28,84€.

  • Amber coloured. Rose, honey, sweet spice and later on fume meat smells on the nose. A good yellow fruit concentration on the palate with roasted bread, soot, mineral and sherry aromas. Due to very long skin maceration, contrary of usual white wines, the wine has tannins. This qvevri wine has just enough acidity and medium finish.

  • Hazy amber in colour with a striking aromatic intensity of pear and golden apple featuring some linden scents later. Quite a different story on the palate as the tangy attack keeps overwhelming, coupled with the vegetal notes and the savoury flavours.
