Late Jan 2018: dark crimson color; plum, intense cherry, blueberry and some herbs; high acidity and slightly coarse on the palate; medium body; medium, tannic finish.
This seems to be a Madiran old style with plenty of acid. Guess most people will not like it, because it’s totally different compared to today’s smooth Tuscany or California reds. However, once you accept the “acid style” vinified Tannat grape you’ll find this is actually a very good/excellent red wine. 89-90 points.
We enjoyed this wine served to pork tenderloin with potatoes swedish style and spinach. Excellent combination!

Black as the ace of spades and full of black things (think licorice, soot, graphite and tar). It has some floral notes and is chunky and youthful in the mouth. It finishes with plenty of crunchy acidity and is well balanced and a cracking drink with barbecued meats.

an impromptu visit to Eketahuna (Eketahuna, New Zealand): Unexpressive wine. Inky colour, closed nose, impenetrable palate, although not in a tannic way. At close to 20 years of age, this wine continues to remain closed for business. I imagine this wine has always been and always will be flat in terms of nuance.

Six years later: the note of Fatty Cat is still spot on. Wine is full of life. Main question: do you like (matured) tannat?
