The 2011 Eremo San Quirico from Nativ, made from Aglianico grapes in Taurasi, is a massive, inky, highly extracted wine that was decanted one hour ahead of dinner. It has a very modest aromatic profile, showing sweet (dare I say over-ripe?) black fruits and not much else. The flavor profile is much, much bigger, as is the body. It has a savory, grape-juicey, almost tactile mid-palate, and maintains the super-ripe black fruit theme. The wine has some tannin, but lots of acidity. That acid and that unique mid-palate save the day for a wine that is otherwise too sweet and too extracted. One odd thing is that this wine is priced very differently around the world. It is way too expensive in the US, where you can find better value super-extracted wines from Argentina and even, believe it or not, California. But the price is OK in Europe. At $18-22 I can recommend this wine for lovers of the “international” style, who would probably give it a higher rating than I do.

It's shit, even if Luca Maroni really likes it.

medium body, fruit forward with structure as the tannins are just behind the fruit

L39915. No change to my detailed notes from 18 months ago. Fine if you like heavily extracted wines. Would not buy again.
