Clear dark eggplant core of moderate intensity extending almost to the rim - a narrow edge of pale ruby with a thin watery rim. Clean but dense nose of dark fruit and some plum but very tight (this after decanting for 1/2 hour) and closed. Dry with moderately intense flavours of plum with firm tannin clamping down almost immediately - very tight and youthful on the palate. Moderate acidity and body with moderate+ tannin and the alcohol shows clearly. The finish is moderate with the tannins adding structure and firmness. Well made but still seemingly very young. 85 points. The next day... Still same robe but what a difference in the nose - now dark chocolate, prune, raisin, damp earth, leaf mould (the typical forest floor) are mixed with clean herbs (sage, tarragon, basil) of mod+ intensity. On the palate, the tannin, while still present in the same amount, is soft and approachable with flavours (mod+ intensity) of leather, plum, dark christmas cake and spice. The moderately long finish is warm but not hot with rich warm accents from the alcohol. Showing much better and indicates still some development potential in the bottles not yet opened (another 3 years). Well done! 88

The first bottle was slightly corked... not awful but I smelled enough wet cardboard to be turned off. As we discussed, this tasted like southern Italian wine - it had a nose of smoke and dried fruit, especially raisins and prunes. There was even an aspect of dried rose petals. The palate had more plums and some berries, and it had a chewy texture. Sweet tannins finished it off - great value wine... I think Tormaresca is one of my favorites.

Quite approachable despite the big tannins. The fruit is slightly roasted in quality - not surprising considering the region and vintage. Very big and impressive wine for the cost, but was not a good pairing for the lighter summer fare we were eating.
