  • The 13 Vireuils is showing decently well today with some notes of reductive gun flint, iodine, white flowers, lemon curd and yellow apples. Needed some air to coax the aromatics and got there in an hour. Light to medium gold, with a hint of development. With that said, I do find that this lacks abit of oomph at the moment, possibly a vintage thing.

  • Immense concentration and acidity. Lemon curd, flint, white peaches and strawberry notes. Really lingers in the mouth, still a bit of noticeable oak that’s nicely integrated. Peaking but can go on for another 4-5 years at this level.

  • Simon Beatty’s memorial dinner, CSJ table (Noizé, London): Mid straw. Rich nose. Botrytis? Gosh, almost a young Sauternes nose. Cleaner and fresher on the palate though. A sense of something herbal. Really chewy, visceral quality that evokes fine, chalky tannin. Slightly crystalline, honeyed texture too. Long and really quite full with 1er Cru plus plus density. Some leginess in the glass too. Quite heady. ****

  • PNP. Interesting nose, showing flint, melon, tropical fruit, white flowers and spice. Medium weight palate, simple at first but shows latent energy and liveliness with an acidic bite on the long finish.

Update on 10/23. Kept 1/2 bottle in the fridge, and the wine has held up remarkably. The nose is still quite flinty, palate shows good acidity and more layers of complexity and if anything has gotten more intense. Bumped from 90 to 92.

  • Matchstick and citrus, just so pure and delectable. Bright acidity and intense, concentrated minerality on the palate. Long finish. Roulot's 2013 Vireuils is very good.
