Put this up against 2009 Guigal Gigondas and 2010 Quivira, all three popped and poured. I liked the Gigondas best and correctly ID'ed it as the most Rhone like of the three. The Quivira somewhat paled by comparison. The Epoch was dense, big, bit of vanilla, not a lot of fruit and somewhat hot (16% alcohol on label). Left the Gigondas and Quivira with Steve and brought the Epoch home. This wine developed nicely over 2 or 3 days. Fruit became more apparent. Heat (EtOH) dissipated.

Well made, with a good finish, but somewhat austere in the fruit department.

Smooth drinking red. Would have preferred a somewhat brighter presence on the palate and in the bouquet.
