This was just as good if not better than the bottle I had last year. Ripe blackberry jam on the nose and palate with some sweet baking spices and toasty oak but everything in relative balance, even with a 15+% abv. Very enjoyable as an end of night sipping wine.

2012 Nicora Shadow Canyon - when first opened huge initially whiff of barnyard and bacon fat etc. which reminded me of the recent conversation re: N. Rhone. with that wild characteristics you get in some of those wines early on. But 30 minutes in it blew off and the pepper/spice notes along with dark berry and fruit comes through. Acid/tannins are just in that right spot, balanced well and no signs of alcohol. Med. body not as robust as I remember but not in a bad way. Full of red berries, pepper, and just a hint of oak. This has aged great and seems to be just starting that perfect drinking window but has easily another 5+ years.

Dark purple color. Ripe black and blue fruit with a bit of violet and just a touch of oak on the nose. Similar flavors along with some blackberry cobbler on the palate. Medium acid and tannin. Smooth mouthfeel. Not the most complex syrah but definitely well made and quite tasty.

Poured a small glass via Coravin. Nose has big fruit, almost a candied nose. Black cherry and brambly berry. Big and tasty, tannin has definitely receded, drinks a bit like a zin but with just a twang of black olive that suggests syrah. Oak does not overshadow fruit.
