Dark cherry, blackberry, tar, tobacco & meat, black pepper. Dark purple core. Big fruit & acid, medium tannin. Possibly more tartaric acid crystals then I've ever seen in a bottle of wine.

The Barbera Cartai, made since 1998. Small production, 3,000 bottles, 1 vineyard in Roddi – Bricco Ambrogio. Super big candied perfume here. Planted in 1950. The vinification from here to the “regular” is about the same I am being told. One or two days more of maceration. Eight passage in barrel. So no new barrique on this I guess.
Karl and John and Bonnie thinks its killer. SO do I.

VinItaly Day 4 (Verona, Italy): 'Aged in barrel'; old vines and small production; deep extraction, very dark maroon with bright rim; very elegant nose, sexy, sweet juicy red cherry, deep floral notes; crushed fresh red cherry, some dark cherry, roses; sensual wine; tasty.

A tad disappointing. Cherry and dark fruit flavor, not very complex, a touch of nail polish. Slightly improved the second night but lack balance
