  • The 2012 Palmento is the first wine made in Anna's recently restored 250-year-old palmento. A petite Australian woman who just left a cellar job at Tenuta dell-Ornellaia, making terroir-true wines — pure, unadulterated expressions of Nerello Mascalese. A palmento is a traditional wine cellar with stone troughs for crushing grapes by foot, and this new bottling was made in the old style. The fruit comes from high elevation (up to 900 meters above sea level), old bush vines (100 years of age); its classic Etna but more graceful, lighter, and more energetic. Light-medium body red with unusual structure for something so light. WOW, this is so good.
