Retail $45, Heavy bottle. "Syrah enhanced with a bit of Viognier." I really have no idea how I acquired this bottle; I only know that I entered it into my cellar in early 2016. Having said all of that, this is pretty fantastic, even a decade after harvest. Dark, on the verge of brooding in the glass with blackberry, cassis, elderberry, and dark plum the predominate fruit notes along with spice and a hint of tar. The palate is still surprisingly fruity, but there is also a whole spice rack, hints of earth, and a tartness to beat the band. Yeah, this is Excellent and close to a whoa.
This Westerly Côte Blonde is one of the best Westerly wine I had. Chocolate, caramel, you can taste some sugar and the sun. The Santa Barbara sun. Go drink this. You will love it.

Nice wine. For my tastes this was more promising on the nose than that palate, where it tended to be a bit heavy and lacking in inner mouth energy. Still, a nice wine, perhaps better suited to cold and a hearty stew than a warm summer night.

What a beautiful showing. This erupts with aromas of black and blue fruit, meat, tar, and scorched earth funk over notes of cola and bright spices, with shades of kettle corn and cotton candy in the background. The palate is rich and compact, with densely packed fruit, melted tannin, ferrous minerality, and a juicy cut. Expressive, harmonious, and delicious. I’m impressed.
