The 2011 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Montefico presents itself in the glass with a medium garnet hue, showing hints of age with a slightly faded edge. On the nose, it's welcoming with clear notes of red raspberry and red cherry. These are complemented by the distinct scents of leather, earth, and a touch of black tea. There's also a hint of mint and a zesty orange peel aroma that I find fairly typical of this cru.
Taking a sip, the wine is medium-bodied with a lively acidity and some strong tannins, suggesting it's got plenty of life left in it. The flavors of leather and earth come through again, paired with the fruitiness of cherry and raspberry. Interestingly, these fruits seem to lean more towards the darker side of the spectrum. The wine also brings in a savory feel with hints of umami, orange peel, tobacco, and tar. There's a bit of warmth from the alcohol, but it's balanced by the other flavors and I think it will feel more integrated with more time. The finish is quite long. If you have another bottle, you might want to let it sit for a few more years to see how it develops. Honestly, I wouldn't revisit this for another 5 years or so.

Opened 5 hours earlier. Deep red with faded, browning rim. This leads with mint and tobacco that are joined by warm spice and dark fruit. Medium + weight that becomes more airy over time. Excellent complexity and liveliness with flavors that reflect the aromas with the savory elements upfront and the fruit more in the background. Bitter chocolate and remaining tannic presence. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had with the 2011 Produttori wines. Nothing too ripe about it, and while it is on the bigger side, it is not overdone as I feared when I had it 2 years ago. It could even resolve more and improve over the next 2-4 years. Interestingly, it noticeably closed down after a total of 8 hours of air.

What a nose. Deep rose. Very fresh and long. Grippy tannins. A joy.

Just as delicious but with a couple hours of air this is approachable enough to be in the sweet spot. Seriously good

Delicious - powerful Barbaresco that still feels young.
