  • Aged in new oak barriques for 16 months. 13,5% alcohol.

Translucent, luminous raspberry marmalade red color. Somewhat restrained nose with aromas of ripe raspberry, juicy red cherry, some lifted sweet character, a little bit of something vaguely green-toned and vegetal, a hint of beet and a touch of smoky toasted wood. I'm not fully certain if the nose is right here, but the wine doesn't smell bad, so I really don't mind. The wine feels lively, medium-bodied and savory on the palate with pretty crunchy flavors of sour cherries, some smoky tones, a little bit of ripe and sweet red fruits, a hint of tar and a touch of something vaguely animal and bloody, perhaps gamey. Overall the wine seems to lack a bit focus, coming across a little bit fuzzy. The structure is pretty firm, thanks to the moderately grippy tannins and quite high acidity. The finish is fresh and lively with moderate tannic grip and vibrant flavors of sour cherries, meaty notes of game, some tar and a hint of woody spice.

A firm, savory and stern Nebbiolo, which feels perhaps a little bit off, or then the wine is just in an awkward phase. People who had tasted this wine before said that it was way off and tasting nothing how it should, but to me this was a pretty typical Valtellina Chivennasca and I didn't notice anything particularly off here. Perhaps the wine was just kept in not-so-optimal conditions, if it appeared somewhat off - it's hard for me to say, because I haven't had this wine before. Overall I found it pretty nice, but nothing particularly memorable.
