PnP'd. Immediate nose of marionberry pie, cocoa dust and tree bark. On the palate, dense and brooding marionberry, loamy-forest floor and chocolate. But not a sweet cocktail wine, it was better with food and over the two hours in which we dawdled over it, the fruit retreated and the chocolate advanced to where it and tannins dominated the finish. All in all, a fantastic bottle that would impress even the most hardened merlot critic.

Despite the admonition of Francois, I decided to crack this one for a special occasion. Sure enough, he is correct that a few more years in the dungeon would help but even young, this is a standout especially since the vintage is less than ideal. Dark ruby with medium plus intensity aromas of forest floor and cassis. Dry with high tannin, full body and alcohol. Having a hard time putting my finger on the individual flavours so I will just say the balance is perfect and leads to a medium plus finish. Not the best Maestoso given the vintage but proof of an exceptional lineage nonetheless.
Last tasted 19 months ago. It has evolved well: right-bankish rich flavors and complexity. Great example of what's possible out of the OK Valley--for a price.

Unfortunately, we opened this wine to early; it's still a baby and it's pretty closed down right now. But you can tell by its balance and structure that it will be a beauty in about 5 years, so my advice is NOT to touch your bottles of 2012, let them sleep. Drink your 2006, 2007 and 2008, they are all beautiful right now.
