  • Deep purple. Such a potpourri of aromas of blackberry, plum, raspberry, nicely integrated oak, black cherry, strawberry, blueberry, violet. Fresh tobacco on palate. Medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins, full body, dry, elevated alcohol. Super fruity with some cooling elements together with good structure and excellent balance. So good.

  • Opened in bottle for 1h and it was ready to go. Dark fruits both on nose and palate. Best part is the lingering finish. Pretty good QPR at $30.

  • Decanted for 3 hours. Was needed. Afterwards a nose dominated by plums and dark berries. Powerful and rich on the palate but also held in balance by a beautiful acidity. Menthol and apothecary notes supplement the black fruit and deliver an elegant coolnes to the wine. Long living.

  • Alkuun sakkainen ja pistava, pullo oli tn sekoittunut. Dekantoinnin jälkeen avautuu pian ja primaariarome alkaa erottua. Boysenmarjaa ja valinjaa. Suutuntuma karkea, sakka tuntuu kuivana kitalaessa. Jälkimaku pitkä, mieto ja viipyvä. Tasapainoinen ja tasokas viini. Valmks juotavaksi. 11/2019. Avauduttua latistuu aika nopeasti.

  • A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Sousão, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. Fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in concrete lagares. Aged for 12 months in used French and American oak barricas. 14,5% alcohol, 5,5 g/l acidity.

Dense, fully opaque pomegranate color. Dense and concentrated nose with dark-toned aromas of wizened dark fruits, some licorice root, a little bit of boysenberry, light toasty notes of oak, a hint of dark chocolate and a touch of blueberry. The wine is dense, full-bodied and concentrated on the palate with ripe flavors of juicy dark plums and boysenberries, some peppery spice, a little bit of licorice, light mocha oak tones, hint of toffee oak and a touch of sweet raisiny fruit. The wine is medium-to-moderately high in acidity with firm, ample and rather grippy tannins. The finish is spicy, slightly warm and quite lengthy with ripe flavors of dark plums, even some pruney fruit and raisin, a little bit of licorice, light notes of toasty oak and hints of boysenberry and bilberry. The tannins make the wine end on a somewhat grippy note.

A good, enjoyable and rather predictable Douro red. Nothing too complex or anything out of ordinary. Overall the wine feels it could use some further aging, but it's hard to assess if this is really meant for the long haul. In this price point I think I prefer the classic Esporão Reserva from Alentejo over this Douro one. Feels pricey for the style at 32,90€.
