  • I do not drink much Montepulciano so that is a qualifier for this note. Lots of sweet cherry and vanilla in the nose, some slight floral qualities. The fruit is sweet and mouth filling with good acidity. I get a cherry cola quality in this wine like many CA and OR Pinot Noirs. The acidity makes it food friendly but the finish is quite short. A simple table wine that is serviceable.

  • The first thing that you notice is the French oak this wine is matured in for 6 months - the wood and sawdust is predominant in the nose with hints of earth and coffee coming through and just a note of cassis and spice in the afternote - the palate is very fruity with red fruit predominant showing the 100% montepulciano grape - although my personal preference is to avoid overly oaky wines somehow the smokiness of the wood here ( almost sawdust and with strong hints of coffee) save the day for me - the finish is medium. I wouldn't mind trying this in another year or so again. Not great but not bad.
