  • Stunningly youthful with a haunting smoky, saddle leathery profile to the still plush black cherry fruit. Fine structure remains to provide length and backbone. Far better than the more tired 1964 side-by-side (though bottle variation was noted among the four bottles of each vintage).

  • A very nice reconditioned bottle. Lovely Brunello.

  • Reconditioned in 2002. Crazy high acidity even after hours in the afternoon. Woody, mushroom, blue fruit, stony meat, brown sugar, leather, bit of primrose after time in glass, really lifted nose. Crystal clear palate, long and mellow but with incredible details and energy. Superb deep heat, with a touch of sweet, almost like grains of toasted pepper uniformly dancing around. Great body. Perfect balance, restrained yet precise. 96

  • Drunk at the Fine Wine Experience Biondi-Santi Riserva Rarities Dinner at Otto e Mezzo in Hong Kong. As was usual with all of the wines at this dinner there was a touch of oxidation on the nose when you first approach this, but it's clear the depth is there. Give it (lots of) time in the glass to allow it to unravel; apparently the high levels of acidity keep it closed but it WILL change in the glass. There is the sweetness that age brings but it retains all the characteristics of a wine that is not yet close to decline. It even has 'legs' that belie its age. It deserves its legendary status and apparently another legend, none other than Frank Sinatra used to carry this wine with him on his travels!

  • Decades of Decadence - x5s: Coffee, graphite, violet, musk and spices form a lovely nose with plenty of aromatic intensity - much improved from when audozed about 8 hours prior and it was reticent. The texture on the palate is fantastic, there is still both tannic grip and a pure sweet red fruit element that works well with the lifting acid line. Great length and style, this bottle must be close to its fully aged peak though it continued to open in the glass. Amazing stuff.
