Nose of pears, candied kumquats, and a hint of caramel. Palate has the pears, some fig, and nuts. Acidity is soft but nicely balances the sweetness. Medium finish. Sort of like a combination of Sauternes and QdC. Nice wine.

Amazing. Brilliant, full blown marmalade orange color, bordering on metallic red orange. Never seen a color quite like this. Huge nose of honeyed, extremely nuanced tertiaries - marzipan, cookie dough, amaretto, quince, wet wool, - on and on - this filled the room on opening. On the palate, the fruit is massive, but I struggle to define it - something like a sweet and sour sauce - maybe sun burnt golden raisins and kumquats, but spicy, and with maple syrup. Excellent acidity on the palate keeps this from being cloying, and the finish lasts minutes. My best tasting buddy said, after sipping this with me for awhile - "and I invest all this money on Sauternes?" (I had a killer 01 Coutet with him recently and this put that to shame.) This is quite close in style to an Eszencia. Just phenomenal, and built to last centuries, not decades. 97pts easily, and I'm probably being very stingy. A jaw dropping, "Wow!"

Liked this a lot, and starting to drink well. Still dessert sweetness, secondary yellow fruits, lots of mineral. Less acid than 1996, but certainly adequate.

dark amber color. honeyed citrus fruit layered over carmelized minerals. not hugely sweet but seems to have a little edge of botrytis. long finish. seems more advanced than I would have expected but enjoyable to drink.
