  • Tempranillo tasting session (Home): The appearance is clear and medium ruby in colour. Tears and sediment are present.

The nose is clean with a medium(+) intensity. There are distinct notes of oak (wood, cedar) and subtle fruit development (dried blackberry). Swirling reveals animal notes (gamey and meaty character), and additional notes of oak and black fruit (blackcurrant, subtle vanilla). The wine is developing.

On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, medium(+) alcohol, and medium body. The medium level tannins are slightly astringent but round and soft in nature. The flavours have a medium intensity and show notes of black fruit (blackcurrant), oak (vanilla, cloves, subtle wood), and fruit development (dried blackberry). An animal nuance (meaty character) evolves on the finish. The finish has a medium(+) length.

This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and have a great balance with the alcohol and the acidity. The tannins have a slightly astringency but are soft and enjoyable, and have a good balance with the acidity. The oak treatment complements the flavour profile, in particular the vanilla-blackcurrant combination. The wine is complex showing primary, secondary, and tertiary characteristics. The finish is enjoyable and has a great length.

The wine drinks well now, and is suitable for further ageing. The fruit intensity is great, and there is sufficient tannic structure and acidity to support the wine as tertiary notes continue to develop.

  • Great now, but could be fantastic in a few years and with decanting/aerating. Big ballsy tempranillo that doesn't muck around - blackcurrant and blueberry and dark cherry, very distinctive. Benefited significantly from decanting. We had it in a byo restaurant without a chance to decant. At first it was overstrong with an acid taste, but improved considerably within an hour and much more after that. Decant or use an aerator. Would benefit from a few years in the cellar. Should be a fantastic wine then.
