  • I opened this wine after the 75 Black Label Wolf Blass in hope it would be sound and drinking well and be able to compete with the Black label. And boy did it do that. From the initial pour and the ensuing 15-20 minutes it just keeping opening and flowering and fattening up. Just a superb example of old Barossa Cabernet. The boys understandably struggled with the year and region but grape variety was easier to pick. Colour and structure and fat palate made it nigh on impossible to pick as a 65 as it appeared to me to be younger looking than the 75. Im struggling to think of a better 65 Cabernet from Australia, perhaps an old 707?
But anyway a stunning wine which i felt drank younger, richer and more complex the preceding Black label that was 10 year younger. My WOTD. One more bottle in the cellar still in the neck and no rush to consume it. Another cracking old Yalumba wine.
