Bought quite of a few or more recent vintages and wanted to check in on how it ages, beautiful complex nose of honeyed fruit, hay, nutty essence , dandelions, dried gooseberries, elegant mouthfeel with medium acidity and integrated fruits, medium+finish

The wine is clear, with pale lemon-green color, and thick legs. On the nose the wine is clean, with medium plus aromas of ripe white fruits, white spices, green herbaceous notes, fresh, slight mineral notes, and sugar cane. On the palate the wine is dry, with medium plus acidity, medium plus alcohol, medium body, medium plus flavors of lemon, lemon zest, orange pill, green tea, fresh herbs, white spices, hints of vanilla, minerals and flintiness. The wine is of a very good quality, due to its complexity, length and depth. Enjoyable now, but can benefit from further aging.

Tasting Ground official tasting, 2014 Eben Sadie part 1 - The Whites (Oinoscent): Semillon Blanc, Semillon Gris Named for the striking tree aloes near the old vineyard it comes from. The vineyard was planted in the 1930s, with a mix of standard Semillon and a red-berried form of the grape once common in the Cape and probably unique to this country, but now almost vanished. Both versions used to be called “Greengrape”. This is one of the most pristine old vineyards we know. No herbicides or artificial fertilisers have been used on it, and it has been perfectly pruned over the years. The downside is that it is a small and low-yielding vineyard. The white and the red Semillon (in an approximately 70:30 proportion) ripen at the same time and are picked and pressed together. The precious juice is taken from the basket press in buckets to an old cask for natural fermentation, and spends 18 months on its lees before being bottled from the cask -//- The wine seems linear in the nose, very shy showing low intensity, ripe to overripe profile, honey, honeycomb, hay notes, overripe lime, tin pineapple, a few baked pear notes. In the palate, the wine shows roundness, ripe tropical notes, medium acidity, medium body, honey notes, mineral, tensity, a touch hot (13.50%)

A very good and serious bit of kit. I don’t drink much semillion but this is clearly a very good wine indeed. Quite rich but not flashy or big on upfront fruit and somewhat restrained. Breadth and texture with a silky richness but with a real spark of acidity and citrus tang that curls up the finish. After time and warming this really eases itself out. What a very good bottle. Should I score it higher ? Not had enough reference points to judge but probably about right.

Without a doubt this is one of the greatest semillon produced in the world.
