A bit thin on opening, but opened up reasonably well. Overall, a decent value at this price point, but not necessarily reflective of Shane Finley's pedigree. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis) and forest floor. It tastes like black currant (cassis). The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

The nose of this wine has definitely shown some improvement. No funky gym locker nose this time on this bottle. However, where I really appreciate mostly fruit notes and maybe some other herbal or minty characteristics (all of the above that I get on this wine), the palate kind of kills it. This time the wine seems to have a better NOSE than PALATE. Seems to be a "drier" pinot....herbal raspberry and earl grey tea. But there is a metallic aspect to the front of this which is very sharp and because of it the wine just didn't really develop. I DO NOT believe it is a cork taint, as I sort of noticed it with the last one. The wine seems to have quite a bit of heat on the finish. Another person said blindly "it tastes a little older than it is" and I agree with that. Almost kind of developing some secondary characteristics. I am wondering if this isn't just the wine starting to show its age, although I would imagine that to be kind of a rarity given this is a 13. There was something not quite right. I would rate this an 87, not quite what I thought it would be. Just different.

Interesting RRV Pinot. The nose is definitely not as good as the wine. The wine poured into glass with a darker, pale maroon color. The nose was all dirty raspberry but sort of had a funky gym locker note. Didn't affect the palate of the wine. The entry shows sharp acidity with good raspberry and "drunken strawberry" notes. The middle is darker, a little more earthy. Getting a wild mushroom note. The finish is brighter, filled with red fruits. Aftertaste reminded me of Cotswold cheese, and I went to cut some Irish herb cheese and it was a sink/faucet kind of relationship. This wine is good, but I wouldn't say that it will age well, and agree with the 2016-2018 drink by dates. So drink up!

Blueberry and cherry. Pretty extracted. Medium body heavier than some, but solid earthiness through finish.
