Like a big powerful fruit juice. The nose is sweet and almost spirity with a blueberry and kirsch character. Juicy and bright with a huge intensity of flavour.

Bought this as a flyer on sale a couple of years ago sub-$35 with no information. It announces itself as a NATURAL WINE and has some VA to work through. In fact, after half a glass, the bottle was capped for a couple of days to settle down. This is a well made wine in the style, high notes, energetic but with some underlying brooding element. My my gripe with this winemaking approach is that it (ironically) features the (hands off) approach (technique) over the varietal (and often terrior). I found that here too... but yet after a couple hours of air it showed Kalamata olive and some scrubbrush more prominently - one could have guessed Syrah. Interesting wine and some quick research indicates that this producer, Scholium Project, now produces wine in Los Angeles under the Los Angeles River label. Worth watching.
14.34% abv (yes, two decimal places)

The nose is packed with sweet fruit aromas: blueberry juice and cherries. Juicy and sappy on the palate with lovely fresh acidity. A nice herby, kirsch character through the whole palate. Via Coravin.

Young wine-should stay in for a few more. Strong cherry notes, wealth of tannins, all still jumping around quite wildly. Decanting helps. Lots of promise. Looks forward to tasting after 2020.

Really pushes the boundaries of what you can do and can expect from Syrah. If you're looking to traditional varietal typicality, this isn't the wine for you. Semi-carbaonic fermentation was used, so this is intensely floral on the nose, almost confectionary violets probably being the dominant note, but there is a strong juxtaposition to the palate, which is much earthier and savory, highlighting the olive and pepper notes, with the fruit notes in support. Very complex and intellectual wine that really presents itself so differently from the nose to the palate. Pretty fascinating stuff, although certainly not for everyone.
