55F SAOR - sweet raspcherry nose - spicy liveliness on palate as tannins initially astringent have faded. Even cellared examples need drinking up - shelved example’s probably over advanced.

55F since acquisition on release - fresh bright medium clear ruby - ready clean nose of fresh flowers and raspberries sprinkled w a fair modicum of cinnamon. Abundant sandy angular tannins and tart acids join in on palate. Nice juice - nice cool ( i.e. in perception of temperature exposure ) expression of grenache. Got a few of their single vyd bottlings but have yet to pull a cork on them. This base cuvee represents fine qpr in my book.

Dinner at Pintxos Bar by Basque Kitchen (Basque Kitchen by Aitor, Singapore): Very nice - this was a real surprise. It had a really pretty nose - bramble, red cherries and raspberries, granitic mineral, some earth - a really charming bouquet. It was tremendously gulpable on the palate too. Very fresh and lively, with silky tannins draped over bright cherries and strawberries, and again that bit of granitic mineral at the edges, and just a little hint of spice and bramble at the finish. Not the most complex, but plenty interesting and absolutely delicious. Drinking beautifully now, and probably close to peak.

A private lunch (Restaurant The Kitchin *, Edinburgh, Scotland): Fortunately nowhere near as rustic as the 2015, even if there is a hint of funk. Beautifully pure and fresh Grenache fruit of ripe peach, spiced strawberry and fresh red cherry, transparent and with lovely floral lift, quite voluminous (14% ABV) but still playful, gently extracted tannins provide elegant grip, perfumed, long and slightly liquorous finish.

Plenty of spice (reminding me of a Gewurztaminer), but on a bed of wild strawberries. Very round, balanced and crowd-pleasing.
