Lots of primary fruit with emphasis on cassis. Polished tannins, but still youthful colour and otherwise modest tertiaries. Excellent now, but seems to have a lot of life left.

Dark saturated ruby purple. Starts out light but over the course of the evening puts on considerable weight and sweetness. This is no blockbuster, just a well balanced and well made Napa cab at a reasonable price point (£55). This is the sort of wine I like to have a good stock of in the cellar because it's just so reliable. You can pull any of his cabs from your cellar anywhere between first release and say 10yrs on and it'll deliver the goods. Buy any wine from this producer with confidence.

Grand Cru Cabernet (pyrmont wharf, sydney): Medium minus intensity aromas of fruit that is more red than black spectrum, slight mud/earth, pencil shavings and graphite. Juicy, savoury with fine textured tannins, fruit is a little muted but carries long with a little alcohol warmth as well. Hmm.

Fresh, elegant, lots of primary fruit (cassis). Drinking great now, but probably has more complexity in ten years.
