I usually write my notes only when a bottle is finished. Last night I wrote a review based on the first half bottle, which was a disappointment. I am taking the unusual step of writing a separate review for night two of this wine, because it is so different from night one. While it still has not regained the aromatic complexity of the first bottle I had two years ago, it is SO MUCH better than last night! It has a sappy, savory flavor, tremendous structure and delineation, and a great beetroot finish. Tonight it reminds me again, like two years ago, of a young Nebbiolo. So, I apologize to the other CT members and to the winery for my haste, and I suggest that you give this a 24 hour double-decant before drinking. And I have no idea how long it will last, but my comments last night about drinking up are clearly wrong!!

Well past its prime. The wine that I rated 91 just 22 months ago is dull; it has today lost all its aromatic charm. It still has a savory and sappy flavor and a medium-light body with some tannic presence, and so still works with meals, but is not very interesting. Based on this experience I would say that these wines should be drunk four-five years from harvest, max.

Very light ruby color; intense aromas of smoke (the smokiest wine this side of 20 year old Cote Rôtie!), leather, flowers, mint, rosemary; firm acidity, medium, grippy tannins; a lightweight earthiness reminiscent of Nebbiolo, particulary from Alto Piemonte; finishes with an intense mineral dryness and very pleasant bittersweetness.

Nose is smoky and and earthy and austere, not too much fruit to talk about. Palate is leathery and spicy with a hint of minerality. Very good balance between tannin and acid, and will probably get even better over the next few years. Paired well with duck breast. Good choice for a young Italian red.
