I'm guessing there's a reason this is called Saltia. They crossed the L, right? This is a very salinous wine. Soooo good. I love it. Probably the limestone soils?
Immediate nose held tart ripe cherries with earth and truffles. The first sip was wonderful with salted cherries on the core and edges and finish with that tart cherries, then herbs with anise and spices. Just a fantastic wine for under $20 at BevMo. I'm somewhat of a wine intuitive and as I was driving down Camino Real in Menlo Park, I saw the BevMo here on the corner across from Safeway. I NEVER buy wine at Bevmo. Maybe I’m too snobby or I feel that supporting the other guy to be of paramount importance, but there I was. I thought of the ribeye in the fridge, the lack of wine in my closet and immediately central Spain jumped into my mind. I pulled in and there it was, the last bottle. I had no idea that this was Syrah until after tasting. I put in my notebook that it tasted like from the South of France, Languedoc-esc, maybe Corbieres or Pic St. Loup. Then come to find out that with more research into this winemaker that in 1998 this was planted to Syrah. (Curious to know the clones.) 1998 was the most fantastic year of my art career! The birth of Fractalage! And such a coincidence that this past week was Syrah loaded from all over the planet: Lazio, Bien Nacido, McLaren Vale, Cornas, Gigondas.
This ranks up there with some of the best Syrah I’ve tasted. Just excellent wine. I loved its salinity. Fantastic return on price. At times I tasted some green notes, black pepper, but the salted cherries were always there. What a fantastic find!
I rate this, as I don’t usually rate wines with number for specific reasons, but I rate this highly to compare with my 100pt 2015 Clape Cornas.
I would buy again, every year I can find. And I would love to drink this every night.
Saltia 2011. Good year!

Kind of like the little brother of the signature "Finca Sandoval" wine, it offers great value for its cost. According to its website, it is Syrah-based from plots rich in clay which give aromatic, less structured wines, with a strong proportion of the lively garnacha tintorera (alicante bouschet) and a dollop of garnacha/grenache. It is ready for earlier drinking than Finca Sandoval. Enjoy!

Herbs, red and dark fruits. Some bitterness. Very well textur but elegant style. Well made wine with a very clean cut with medium+ acid and soft medium tannins.

Clear dark ruby color. Nose of leather, clay, herbs, and ripe red fruits. Moderate acid, rich body, fine tannin. Medium finish, a hair bitter and hot. Overall it’s very good. Kind of like a Rioja but definitely different... it gives the impression of being made with grapes that really baked in the sun.
